Cappadocia Fairy Chimneys

With the effect of flood waters flowing from the slopes of the valleys and the effect of the wind, very interesting formations called "fairy chimneys" have emerged. The flood waters finding their way on steep slopes caused the hard rocks to crack and rupture. With the deep carving of the floor located at the bottom and more easily worn, conical shaped bodies have emerged that are protected from abrasion by the hat on the upper parts. The capped fairy chimneys, mostly found around Ürgüp and Göreme, have a conical body and there is a rock block on the top. The body is made up of tuff, tuffite and volcanic ash, and the hat part is made of hard rocks. In other words, the rock type that makes up the hat is more durable than the rock group that makes up the body. This is the first condition for the formation of fairy chimneys. Depending on the resistance of the rock in the hat, fairy chimneys are long or short-lived. Other types of fairy chimneys created by erosion in the Cappadocia region are conical, mushroom-shaped, columnar and pointed fairy chimneys. Fairy chimneys are most frequently seen in the valleys between Ürgüp-Göreme-Üçhisar-Avanos, around the town of Nevşehir Çat in the region between Ürgüp and Şahinefendi. Apart from the fairy chimneys, the interesting curves formed by the rain water on the slopes of the valley add a special feature to the region. The color harmony seen on some slopes is due to the temperature difference of the lava layers. These formations are seen in Üçhisar, Çavuşin and Güllüdere, Göreme valley, Ortahisar, Kızılçukur and Pancarlık valley.

While the Hot Air Balloons are preparing for the flight on the ground, our passengers have a light breakfast buffet and watch the preparation of the balloons. After a short preparation period and the short flight information given by the pilot, the balloons start flying near sunrise. There is no possibility of guidance in hot air balloons. They move in the direction of the wind. However, the wind directions may be different at different altitudes of the weather. The pilot tries to find the appropriate wind in the direction he wants to go by rising and falling. During the flight, Hot Air Balloons go up to a height of approximately 800 meters and allow our passengers to watch the sunrise, enter the valleys and view the fairy chimneys and valley views. At the end of the flight, we have a champagne celebration for our passengers. In addition, a flight medal is given as a commemorative flight.
